What's in a Name?  Branding & Marketing Your GEAR UP Program

You know what a brand is, and you can easily come up with a list of product brand names. But a brand is also a collection of symbols, experiences, and associations connected with a product, service, person or other entity. Through new logos and a new tagline, student and family-centered publications, a new website, and a series of events including an annual regional GEAR UP conference, the Washington State GEAR UP Program has created a recognizable brand  in college access region-wide. This session will highlight best practices for creating an engaging and effective brand identity for your program, and using your new identity in publications and events to increase college awareness among students and families and to establish and maintain meaningful partnerships and collaborations with other GEAR UP programs, organizations, and agencies.

GEAR UP for Student Success - A State-Funded GEAR UP Model

Washington GEAR UP for Student Success is the first state-funded multi-year GEAR UP expansion program in the nation. This session will discuss the process for securing $2.5 million to support GEAR UP in 25 of the state’s poorest school districts, and the unique components that have resulted in successful implementation over the past two years. From recruiting schools to creating administrative guidelines, from creating training plans to providing compliance site visits, this presentation will provide participants with the nuts and bolts needed to go back to their communities and begin establishing a new version of GEAR UP with non-federal funding.

Life After GEAR UP (not yet available for download)
